THE YELLOW MOON
Night fell and the moon rose,
its pale yellow the colour of un-spread butter.
It threw its light fingers out across the lake,
sinking and rising on the wind-ruffled surface,
lapping and ebbing on the shore.
Beyond the house an owl screeched
and all the night creatures froze for a second,
and then went softly on.
The people in the house slept soundly,
oblivious to the brightly-lit world outside their window
gently moving by.
Dawn came eventually, as it always does,
and the moon went back to bed,
its work done for the day.
